I think when you are married, romance is sometimes a different thing than it was before. Or at least before you were living together.
Every Monday is date night at our house. I know date night is traditionally for couples who have to shoehorn in time together, usually when they have kids. We do okay getting out and about, but it’s still nice to know that Monday is a given and that no one else will be tagging along.
I came home tonight around 6:30 just in time to see Damon going out to walk to the hardware store. He came back and fixed the lock on the front door while I checked email. We wrapped up our chores and then walked down to our neighborhood Italian restaurant. I had my traditional linguini with clams in white sauce. We spent the whole dinner having a rousing conversation about the people I hate. There aren’t many, but it was fun to really dig around in my head and come up with who makes me the maddest and why. Then we walked to Rite Aid so I could buy a case of Slim Fast breakfast drinks, which I love love love. And then we came home. Now I’m watching a traditional date night movie (Kate & Leopold) which Damon roundly mocked before going off the learn lines for his Friday-night showcase.
And it was such a fun night and, to my mind, totally romantic.

Sounds like a perfect date. Just as long as my name didn’t come up over dinner.

I think it’s things like that, rather than the big obvious stuff, that makes you really happy. Being happily married is the most fun; it’s being in a club with two members.
