So Much

It has been weighing on my mind that I sent up a breastfeeding SOS a few weeks ago and then just melted back into silence on the topic. Thanks to all yet again for all their excellent advice and support.

The good news is that we’re hanging in there and have reached a point where I’m pumping enough to keep him in fresh milk. The frozen supply continues to hold firm at about 40 ounces. I’d love to be able to put my finger on what got us back on track. “I did a fabulous breast milk dance and suddenly rivers were flowing.” It just… came back. Not quite as rich as it was before, but far better than the sudden decline. I’m still taking a brewers yeast and a fenugreek supplement every day, because I don’t want to jinx myself.

My sweet little guy turned six months old yesterday, and today he had his checkup. His doctor proclaimed him the most excellent baby she’s ever seen. If she didn’t say that exactly, it was something very close. She asked us if he is pulling up yet, which made me laugh because he’s as likely to be pulling up in his sweet ride of a Camaro as he is to be pulling up on the side of his crib. When I laughed and said, “Not even close” she said, “That’s okay, it’s early for that. He is turning over both ways now, right?” Yeah. No, he’s not. He can go from back to belly, but usually gets one arm trapped. But he’s fine, I’m not worried. He’s just a mellow little baby and is usually pretty happy to play how he lays. He’s also still Costo baby jumbo sized, and that bulk must be hard to shift.

You know what’s hilarious tonight? When I say, “Hiiiiii.” Fits of giggles and shrieks of joy. Every time.

There will be more on the big move soon, but I’m starting to succumb to sleepy. I’ll leave you with a photo of Alden embarrassed to be caught bathing.

Heh! Too cute. That’s one of those pictures you show him when he’s all trying to be suave and adult. “Oh mo-oom, I’m too cool for school.” “Look. This was you, at 6 months, and the WHOLE OF LJ saw you.”

Great news about the pumping output. Now that he’s hit the six months mark, you can start looking into introducing some foods if you find yourself with another gap between supply and demand!

We’re on it. I gave him a chunk of milled, frozen banana in a self feeder and he just could not believe how wonderful life was for those 10 minutes. When I closed my eyes it sounded like there was a big sloppy dog having a snack.

See, we think alike. I know my life gets exponentially more complicated once he’s on the move. We can wait until he’s ready. I love the adorable blobby phase.
