I’ve been waiting for this post for MONTHS!
🙂
I’ve already sent warm fuzzies to Damon via cell phone today. So, here are some through the ‘net!
Congrats!!!
Thank you for all warm congratulations! We’re very excited, and believe me — many people have been waiting MONTHS 🙂
The proposal was very romantic, and perfect for me. Damon met me at the door when I got home from work and suggested we go out for drinks. So we headed down to margarita happy hour at our local Mexican restaurant. After drinks, chips and fun we came back to the apartment. I had just collapsed on the couch when Damon yelled ‘Hey, c’mere from the bedroom” So after protesting that I was tired I gave in. When I walked in he had this little bag in his hand. At that point I knew I was the luckiest girl in the world, and said “Oh my gosh, is that candy???”
Then he pulled a little ring box out and got down on one knee. It all gets a little fuzzy and I think I need to ask him for a recap on everything that we said. But I do remember that it was lovely. So I cried, and I grabbed the ring and put it on my own finger. And then I remember that I’m supposed to let him do that, so I gave it back to him and let him do it.
I’m so happy that he did it at home for two reasons. One is that I would not like a public proposal, as I think I would feel too exposed in what feels like a very private moment. Damon, thank goodness, knows that about me. And also because I’ll get to be reminded of it all the time.
It was still pretty early in the evening, so we headed out for a romantic Italian dinner near the park. I was way too wired to eat so I ordered wine and tiramisu and then sat there watching him eat dinner and picking at my dessert. I kept thinking: We just got engaged! We just got engaged!
The ring is gorgeous. Not only is it beautiful on its own merits, but it’s also a ring that his dad gave his mom. Because Damon’s dad died so young, there isn’t much jewelry with that distinction. And I’ve never been really sure of how his family is taking my presence, so his mother offering this ring is so meaningful.
I wish my digital camera wasn’t from the stone age. I’ve made many attempts to take a photo, but it won’t focus on something as small as a ring. But it’s easy to describe. It’s an ultra-thin gold band with one solitaire diamond. Just simple and perfect. And very, very sparkly. And, if I can be shallow for a moment, a bigger rock than I ever expected to be wearing.

My thanks and story were actually for everyone, but I accidentally put it under steakum’s post. 🙂
