I can’t say I will never. I can only say I will try. I will try not to make fun of diseases that sound either hilarious or lame to me. This pregnancy has brought me more of the same from Alden’s — what I can only line up as restless leg syndrome. Lame! I know! Lame! It sounds so fake. And yet I feel a constant current running through my legs that starts around after dinner and lasts until I finally fall asleep. There are moments when I would saw them clean off to stop the constant irritation. Gah!
I’m 23 weeks pregnant — the time when the web sites start laying odds on baby survival should he be born now. That’s a weird line to cross for me. If I had the baby today the doctors would try to save him (or would at least consult with us on that effort). That, to me, brings this whole ‘second kid’ thing into greater relief. Obviously, I don’t want to see this little guy for 17 more weeks. But that really isn’t that far away.

Dude, I can tell you that RLS is real. I’ve had it all my life, and burst out laughing when I found out it’s real. I would always just say my legs felt “twitchy,” and I’d get up and walk. My arms sometimes do it at night and I have to do push-ups. I’m not kidding.
RLS treatment (did I tell you about this last time?): Have Damon rub FlexAll into your calves. Massage a nice long time. Gently but firmly wrap lower legs in Ace bandages (not tightly–you should be able to slip a finger under without difficulty). Sleep.

*makes mental note of this post for next time RLS strikes*
I usually just go out on the couch. For some reason, having the support of the couch back helps my leg calm down (I only have it in one leg). This was true during pregnancy as well.

I always have to do something that tires mine out. Walking, squats, whatever. I feel like an idiot wandering around doing squats at 3 am, but you do what you have to do. My husband got me a leg massager thing (the big one that you put your legs into) and it helps so much. I think he was tired of the fidgeting.

Thank you for the tips! It’s so hard to describe. Damon keeps asking and I just say, “I feel like there’s a mild electric current running through my legs.” Squats are probably out, as I roll into my third trimester, but a brisk walk is a good option. I start yoga classes on Monday and I’m hoping that helps too.

When did we determine that he is a he? Or did we?
We being you, of course.

We were given progressively more confident predictions for the past few months, and then got confirmation two weeks ago at our anatomy scan. Yay boys!
