It’s funny you should say that. When we’re in China we’ll have to give the orphanage $3000 and they only accept newly-minted US $100 bills.

As it happens I knew that. I have a friend who adopted two children from Khazakstan and she had to take something like $28,000 in newly minted US $100 bills, along with “gestures” for the orphanage that they came from.
It was amazing to me how fast it all happened after her dossier was together and in the hands of the agency. One day we were on the treadmills at the Y, and literally the next day I was helping her figure out the logistics of her trip.

$28K?!?!? I’m going to stop complaining right now. With some luck, we won’t spend that much on the entire process. Of course it will take much longer, but we have to have some money to feed the kid once we get her.

I think when all was said and done, it was something like $42K for those two kids, but that included airfare and legal fees and “gestures.”

holy cow. you would think that it would be cheaper since in becoming parents you are also doing a good deed by giving a child who needs a home a happy safe and loving home.

No kidding! We’re looking at about $25K just to get the kid in the door. I hope she doesn’t want to eat, like, every day.
